/SAN DIEGO, CA, May 16, 2023/ -- As announced in mid-April, after 25 years at the beach the beloved, Bub's at The Beach, has closed its doors. Affectionately known for hot tots, the best wings and as San Diego's home for Pittsburgh Steeler fans it has provided many fond memories over the years. ”Having Bub’s be a part of Pacific Beach for so long has meant the world to my wife and I and moving on has been extremely difficult for us.” Todd Brown continued, “That being said, we are also very excited about where PB is heading and creating an opportunity for a young entrepreneur in our industry! Get ready for Krista!!”
Questions have been swirling around the closure with sadness expressed and gratitude shown for such a great run in Pacific Beach. So, what's next at 1030 Garnet Avenue? Long time industry leader, Krista Barrella will take over the property in mid-May with a remodel, rebrand and modern concept featuring lite bites and spirit forward cocktails: bar Ella. “It is an honor to take the torch from Todd [Brown] and keep 1030 Garnet a bustling business in the heart of PB!” Barrella stated.
Krista comes from a background in hospitality starting as a hostess when she was just 16 years old. After moving to San Diego in 2007, she started working at a Pacific Beach Icon, Moondoggies, while she put herself through college. Then in 2013, Krista was brought onto the team at the newly remodeled Tavern at The Beach, and following the completion of her bachelor’s degree, she pivoted into management. Following a brief stint downtown, in 2019 she returned to PB and was named the General Manager of Tavern at The Beach. She is involved in the community, has a knack for customer service and is known by friends, family, and guests to emphasize the little things.
So, what will the vibe be like following the remodel? “bar Ella will help fill a culinary gap in the community, bringing a vibrant menu and energetic atmosphere to the beach!” Barrella continued, “a place to share a great meal with friends and family whether you’re a local or visiting from out of town. We want to be known as THE place you think of when you want a fun and delicious meal regardless of the occasion or day of the week.”
With plans to open in the Fall of 2023, bar Ella Pacific Beach will feature a modern menu and a vibrant, cocktail forward bar program becoming a place where guests can grab elevated food and drinks without leaving the beach.
