CRANBROOK, BC (PGA of BC) - Fairview Mountain Golf Club’s Rob Tadey and Brian McDonald are your 2023 G&G Brands & Callaway Golf PGA of BC Pro-Assistant champions, winning their third title at the event after taking home the hardware in both 2017 and 2020. The duo was able to dominate at St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino today en route to a 13-under Scramble score of 59, to finish the tournament at 21-under-par.
Tadey and McDonald started their day tied for second place after shooting 64 in the Best-Ball first round. They rattled off five birdies in their first six holes, then made back-to-back eagles on the ninth and tenth holes. The team added four more birdies on the back nine, including on the 18th to secure the only sub-60 round of the two-day tournament.
“We came out here, we just said ‘We want to have some fun,’ and then we bumped it along and somehow got her to 59 today,” said McDonald.
Tadey and McDonald’s skillsets complement each other, with McDonald’s ball-striking abilities giving them plenty of opportunity and Tadey’s precision putting to make sure those opportunities never go to waste.
“Brian hit it unbelievable. On nine, probably the shot of the day for us. I let one leak in the water and he put us to about six feet, and that got us rolling with back-to-back eagles,” said Tadey.
“Rob is the best putter I know, he’s still buying me dinner tonight though,” added McDonald. “To be honest with you, I think the secret was we always try to get to bed early. Most teams don’t get to bed early, we got to bed early, so we feel really good about that.” Some competitors have disputed these claims.
Completing the tournament at 19-under-par, Point Grey Golf & Country Club’s Dave Zibrik and Josh Legge finished as runners-up. Zibrik and Legge posted a score of 60 today, piling up 10 birdies and an eagle. Meadow Gardens Golf Club’s Craig Barr and Curtis Baldwin rounded out the podium, shooting 17-under-par, with 10 birdies on the day.
