You may have heard of an exceptional and selfless young boy named Liam Wilson from Milton, Ontario. At only eight years of age, Liam founded a charitable campaign with his mother called “Liam’s Mission” which supplies “comfort kits” for children unexpectedly visiting the hospital.

Liam was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at just three weeks of age. Despite living with this diagnosis, his bravery and courage has given him an entrepreneurial spirit to help other children in need.

Liam’s Mission is designed to assist children and their families who arrive at the hospital unexpectedly. Along with his mother, Deana, they certainly understand that feeling and have chosen to harness this in a positive way by offering small bags of comfort during difficult times. The comfort kits include toothpaste, toothbrush, colouring book, hand cream, gum, ear plugs, lip balm, underwear, a peanut-free snack, and other goodies to help ease the stress of an unexpected hospital stay. Deana says the kit is intended to help parents “not have to worry about one more thing on top of everything else.”

Liam describes the comfort kits as a way to make children feel more comfortable while away from home. Hospital staff distribute them directly to families upon admission, and they are grateful to Liam and Deana for helping reduce the pressure on families who have rushed from their homes and arrived with little or no comforts of home.

Through his Mission, Liam has donated hundreds of comfort kits to local hospitals. The staff and parents see him as something of a local celebrity and marvel at his precocious and tireless efforts to help others and Liam does not plan on stopping any time soon. He intends to continue his Mission to supply home comforts because, as he says, "he knows how scary it is for children and their parents in this situation".

As word of Liam’s Mission spreads far and wide, more people and businesses are offering support. At WeeCare, we have been inspired and moved by his incredible Mission and spirit, and are proud to support Liam’s Mission by donating an extra 125 comfort kits. We have also been fortunate to support Liam by helping him transport kits to all of the various hospitals.
